Czech Republic: Possible Immigration Reprisals against Americans, Canadians, and Australians

Frustration over the visa policies of the U.S., Canada and Australia has sparked an argument between the ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior, with the Foreign Affairs minister threatening to enforce a law that has been ignored for six years as a reprisal for policies that require Czechs to obtain visas to visit those countries. The law requires that foreigners prove that they have 30,000 euros (about $36,000) worth of health insurance coverage upon arrival. The Interior minister says the current immigration system works and he won’t change it. The most likely scenario is the status quo, but if this law begins to be enforced, it will complicate entry to the Czech Republic.
