Jamaica: Violent Crime Usually Misses Tourists
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Most visitors to this Caribbean island do not encounter violent crime, and the tourist and resort areas, especially on the north coast, are relatively crime free. Petty theft and pickpocketing, however, are common at major tourist sites. Jamaica has the highest per capita murder rate in the world, with the bulk of the crime occurring in the greater Kingston metropolitan area. The crime is driven principally by poverty, gangs and drugs. Taking common-sense precautions and staying out of high-crime areas are the best ways to avoid becoming a crime victim.

If that would be true what you are saying then why is it that you continuously hear similar violent stories like in the links below about Jamaica’s tourist destinations like Negril, etc.???
A Scandinavian pregnant woman got totally mutilated in Negril, Jamaica, a few months ago.
You forgot about this story? Is tourism ignoring it because it is an inconvenient truth to Jamaican tourism? Let’s assume this would be the only case, which it is not, is this not enough to let tourists know about the atrocities that are happening to tourists in Jamaica every year?
I believe you are misinterpreting Jamaican violence quite a bit.
