United Kingdom: No Berths on the River Cam in Cambridge

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | April 18th, 2006 | Trackback

Boaters on the River Cam, including tourists who have chartered vessels for holiday cruises, will have a rude awakening when they arrive in Cambridge: there will be no berths available. City officials assigned all berths in the city to local houseboats when faced with a surge in applications for space, but they failed to consult tour companies or other locals with an interest in the issue. Officials said the lack of berth space is a temporary condition, but they felt they should assign the spaces to people who live and work in the city. Temporary or not, the result for now is that tourist boaters will have to find berths elsewhere.
