East Africa: Potential for Terrorist Attacks

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | May 9th, 2006 | Trackback

The U.S. State Department has reissued its public announcement alerting Americans to the potential for terrorist attacks in East Africa, especially along the coast. Officials believe that a small number of al-Qaeda operatives and other extremists are active in the region. Dozens of pirate attacks have occurred in the past year in seas off the Horn of Africa, and anyone planning seaborne travel should take extreme caution. Attacks have occurred as far as 200 miles off shore in international waters.
