Italy: Naples to Give Visitors Cheap Watches to Thwart Snatch Thieves

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | May 16th, 2006 | Trackback

Last year, authorities in Naples banned Vespas from the city center in an effort to stop ride-by snatch attacks, and this year they are targeting wristwatch thieves. Hotels plan to place cheap plastic watches on nightstands with a note urging visitors to leave their expensive watches in the hotel safe and keep track of the time with these free replacements. Whether the campaign slows down the gangs of “Rolex-snatchers” remains to be seen.
