Bahamas: Malaria Risk on Great Exuma Cay
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Malaria does not normally occur in the Bahamas, but at least 16 cases have been reported on Great Exuma Cay, including in one Canadian and one American who visited the island. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommends that all travelers to the island take chloroquine to prevent infection and protect themselves against mosquito bites. Local authorities expect the number of cases to increase, but also believe they can control the outbreak, which has not spread beyond Great Exuma.
