Costa Rica: Laptop Computer Thefts in San Jose
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |An American walking to Sabana Park in San Jose was shot twice during a robbery May 29 when thieves stole his laptop computer. One robber tried to snatch the computer from his hand and when he resisted, an accomplice clubbed the victim on the head, then shot him in the leg. When they fled, the accomplice shot him again in the leg. A similar incident occurred a few months ago to a European man who was also carrying a laptop computer near Sabana Park. Laptop computers are valuable items and easy to steal. They should be concealed as much as possible. Resisting such robberies is almost always a bad idea because of the risk of injury or worse. Laptop theft is certainly not unique to Costa Rica, however. In some U.S. cities, snatching of computers from beneath the fingers of café patrons is a growing problem.

Hi…
Im from Costa Rica and i must admit the article is right but let me give you some advices that might help you during your stay in my country.
1.Don’t use a laptop briefcase for carrying you computer, use a normal bag or backpack
2. Be careful when using your laptop at an internet cafe, there might be waiting your computer and they may follow you
3. Please, don’t walk in Sabana Park, it is well known as a dangerous place
