Jordan: Petra to Get Park Rangers

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | July 4th, 2006 | Trackback

The world-famous archaeological site of Petra may soon have park rangers to assist visitors, provide emergency medical and search and rescue services, and help protect the UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors are now free to roam Petra at will and occasionally get lost or have accidents and there is no central authority dedicated to assisting them. Rangers would patrol remote areas of the site and help put tourists back on the right track. The plan is being developed by the Petra National Trust and it hopes to have a full proposal in place by the end of the year.
