Turkey: Terror Campaign Coverup?

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | July 4th, 2006 | Trackback

An explosion at a popular restaurant at a waterfall in Manavgat June 25 was officially blamed on an exploding gas cylinder, but a press investigation revealed that security cameras caught a team of three attackers placing a bomb in a bin 20 minutes before the blast. The news raised concerns that authorities in Antalya are trying to cover up a terrorism campaign to protect the tourism industry. Such actions have occurred in the past. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Kurdistan Liberation Hawks (TAK), a group that threatened to bomb Turkish tourists sites this summer. The group has said that its prime targets would be sites frequented by foreign tourists.
