Egypt: Terrorist Threat in Sinai

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | 1 comment | September 5th, 2006 | Trackback

Australia’s Foreign Affairs Department warned its citizens to travel with a high degree of caution, especially in the Sinai, because it continues to receive reports that terrorists are planning attacks there. Sharm-el-Sheikh and other resorts are believed to be targets. The department’s advisory states that “further attacks can be expected.” Israeli security officials also warned of threats in the Sinai and urged all Israelis to avoid the area and to leave Egypt immediately, stating that the caution about travel there was at its highest level.

Great tip: Stay in a hostel in Sharm - no one will bomb it - they do upscale targets. Next tip: Take a 1 hour taxi north to Dahab. Subtle beauty with the blue hole snorkeling, diving and unbelievably cheap. I stayed for 5 Egyptian pounds per night with an ocean view - about a buck and a quarter per night!
