U.S. Virgin Islands: National Park Expands
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |It took five years of negotiations, but the Virgin Islands National Park that covers more than half the island of St. John will add 415 acres of white-sand beaches and jungle by the end of the year. The deal was brokered by the San Francisco-based Trust for Public Land, which will buy the land and sell it to the National Park Service. The property is considered a pristine addition to the park, and concern that it would be developed prompted the effort to acquire it.
