European Union: New Rules for Liquids on Planes
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |New rules restricting the volume of liquids passengers may carry aboard flights go into effect Nov. 6. Passengers will be limited to 100 milliliters (3.4 ounces) of liquid per container. All containers should be carried in clear plastic bags. Passengers can, however, pack larger amounts of liquids in checked luggage and buy liquids at airport shops after passing through security. New restrictions are also planned for the size of carry-on luggage, but they will take effect April 17. The maximum size will be 22 x 17 x 10 inches with special exceptions made for musical instruments. At security checks, passengers will need to remove laptops and large electrical items from their bags and take off their coats. These are the minimum EU requirements, with member countries free to establish stricter measures if desired.
