India: Airport Security Tightened in South

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | November 14th, 2006 | Trackback

Airports in southern India are on high alert and security has been tightened because of a threat of a car bombing at one of them by a person claiming to be an al-Qaeda spokesman. The airports in question are Cochin (Kochi), Coimbatore, Madras (Chennai), Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy and Trivandrum. The threat came in a letter to the chief of the Trichy airport Nov. 7. Security measures could include closing roads and screening vehicles, so allow extra time if flying from these airports.
