India: Security High at Taj Mahal, Delhi Metro

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 14th, 2007 | Trackback

Security was stepped up to high alert in June 2006 at the Taj Mahal and remains at that level because of ongoing terrorist threats. Authorities have also identified the Delhi Metro as a possible terrorist target and have increased security there, using officers of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to bolster Delhi’s police. CISF is a national paramilitary force used to guard ports, transportation facilities and key industrial sites. On April 15 CISF will take over full control of security for the Metro, including the use of security cameras and passenger screening to single out suspicious individuals.
