Mexico: Cancun’s Beach Eroding Again

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 14th, 2007 | Trackback

Cancun is hopping again with 85 percent hotel occupancy rates and is preparing for spring break, but its beaches are being eroded once more following their complete rehabilitation after Hurricane Wilma left them empty of sand in 2005. Cancun without a beach was a resort without a draw, so the government spent the money to dredge sand from the sea bottom and pump it here. Now in some places much of the sand has been sucked back out to sea, and the erosion will continue unless authorities find a permanent solution.
