South Africa: New Policy for Tourists’ Safety in Cape Town

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 21st, 2007 | Trackback

Cape Town officials have initiated a policy to help keep tourists safe by raising the awareness of tourists to potential dangers and locals to the ways they can assist tourists in their midst. The government has distributed brochures with safety tips designed to inform but not frighten, offering practical advice for avoiding crime. Officials are also working to coordinate communications and emergency services when a visitor gets in trouble. Part of the plan is to educate local citizens to help tourists who may be lost so they can avoid rough neighborhoods and help them contact emergency services when necessary.
