Italy: Garbage Piles Up in Naples

My family and I come from Naples. What is happening is not the fault of citizens but rather the fault of rotten corrupt leaders and those who control the waste facilities. Shame on them. Get rid of the real garbage which are the officials and those who tweak the officials with fear and money. It’s time the world not blink or look away from the millions who live in the shadow of Vesuvius. The real danger is not the volcano exploding its top but those who have subversed the spirit of the citizens with fear and corruption.

Who is running this site anyway?

Having been in Naples recently (two weeks in March/08) it is truly amazing that Rome (160 north of Naples) has NO garbage problem and is extremely clean.

Naples and the surrounding area is somewhat filthy because the local government officals (and those who control them)let it happen.

Yes, it’s time to clean up Naples - in more than one way. The areas/towns surrounding Naples/Vesuvius are absolutely beautiful. If you need convincing, visit the Amalfi coastline - I am certain that you will never forget the view and the fact that you actually survived the drive.

Final comment: garbage or not, go visit - it’s still worth the trip.
