Mexico: Mexico City Could Face Sewage Flood

Mexico City could see floods of sewage 15-feet deep in its historic center and at the international airport if the city’s main drainage tunnel fails, which is a strong possibility according to Mexico’s national water agency. The 21-foot-wide tunnel has been losing capacity for years but because it’s always filled it hasn’t been checked thoroughly for maintenance in 15 years. Officials are concerned that it could become clogged and back up during the rainy season that runs through October. There are options for averting a smelly disaster, but especially heavy rain could overwhelm those alternatives.

Look, I’m really not looking forward to being publicly proclaimed the village idiot, but I need to air this regardless:
I have woken twice this week to dreams of dead Mexicans floating down a canal. I was going down the road beside it and watching bodies float by, sometimes in clusters like driftwood. I counted dozens before I woke.
I don’t normally have dreams like that, but have had dreams as disturbing in the past. Twice. Both times I lost a loved one right after, and both times with striking similarities to the dream.
I have never visited this website before and only found it after typing “October 2007 flood Mexico” in my search bar just now.
I was honestly just looking for news that it had already happened.
If you have any kind of pull at all, I’d STRONGLY suggest addressing this preemptively. I never got that chance the first two times and that’s a hard pack to carry.
