Europe: Extreme Weather Plagues Britain, Continent

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | July 25th, 2007 | Trackback

Extreme weather is plaguing Europe, with England suffering its worst floods in 60 years and intense heat contributing to forest fires in southern Italy and across the Balkan peninsula. Romania saw temperatures above 100 for seven straight days, while a fast-moving brush fire drove thousands of tourists out of hotels and campsites to the beaches in Italy’s Puglia region. In Macedonia, fires exploded shells from World War I that had been dormant since 1916, and Greece saw its highest day of power consumption ever as people tried to survive the heat.
