India: Terror Threat in Mumbai (Bombay); New Guides in Delhi
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Police in Mumbai (Bombay) warned that suicide bombers were roaming the city looking for targets following a report from a taxi driver who had driven them to a Hindu temple, two mosques and two luxury hotels. He became suspicious when they began to discuss security at each place and asked him to deliver a bag for them. Mumbai has been the scene of several terrorist bombings over the years, the most recent an attack on the commuter railway in July 2006. In other news, Delhi officials plan to train college students as tourist guides in advance of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. To date the capital area does not have a guide policy, but officials expect a dramatic increase in tourism by the time the games come around, and they want to be prepared.
