India: Security Tightened in Delhi

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | December 6th, 2007 | Trackback

Security has been tightened in Delhi after intelligence reports revealed that two militant Islamic groups may be planning attacks in the city. The reports, released Dec. 3, warned that attacks could take place within two weeks, with the main threat in marketplaces and crowded areas such as malls and transit stations. Police have deployed bomb disposal squads, dog squads and extra personnel at key places throughout the capital. They have also asked for the cooperation of cyber café proprietors and hotel and guesthouse operators in keeping track of their customers. Coordinated bombings that took place in Uttar Pradesh in November were threatened in an email that originated in Delhi.
