Philippines: U.S. FAA Downgrades Airline Operations

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | January 17th, 2008 | Trackback

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has downgraded Philippine airline operations because they do not comply with International Civil Aviation Organization safety standards. The FAA moved Philippine carriers into category 2, which means they can still fly to the U.S. but only under heightened FAA surveillance. Philippine Airlines is the only carrier from the Philippines that flies to the U.S. and it had hoped to increase the number of its flights, but will be prevented until the rating improves. A category 2 rating means the government lacks regulations needed for certification of airlines under minimum international standards.
