Indonesia: “Drink-Spiking” Increasing in Jakarta
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |According to the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, the Indonesian National Police have reported an increase in “drink-spiking” in Jakarta within the past month targeting men frequenting clubs and nightspots. The drug of choice is believed to be a powerful animal tranquilizer that knocks out the victim for a long period of time and produces side effects of memory loss, nausea, headaches and vomiting. While men have been the recent targets, women have been the victims of “date-rape” drugs in the past, and all should be careful when out for a good time. It is prudent to make sure that all bottled beverages served to you are sealed and opened in front of you, and it is wise not to accept a beverage from someone you have just met.
