The U.S. Embassy in Belmopan warned U.S. travelers to “take an active role in their own personal security” because of recent increases in violent crime in the central and western regions of the country. San Ignacio, Benque Viejo and rural villages in the Cayo District are particularly troubled and crime is high and often violent in Belize City. The government deployed the military to western areas of the country to combat the violence.

My man has wanted to move to Belize from the US for years. Now, we’re really going to do it. I am bringing my 17 yr. old son and am concerned about the violence and gangs. I haven’t found a whole lot to read recently. Please direct me to the real truth about the violence/police corruption and the government. I’ve lived on this planet a long time and would like to be able to live wherever I want, comfortably.
