Cambodia: Dengue Fever Down, but Still High Risk in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | August 13th, 2008 | Trackback

Dengue fever cases are down more than half compared to last year at this time, but health authorities warned that the risk is still high in major tourist areas, especially Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, home of Angkor Wat. The number of cases in both areas is above average and the monsoon season is just reaching its peak. Dengue fever is spread by mosquitoes that are active during the day, and the best prevention is to avoid being bitten. Using mosquito repellent and wearing clothes that cover the arms and legs is prudent. Dengue fever can develop into dengue hemorrhagic fever that can be fatal.
