France: Police Defuse Bombs in Basque Tourist Area
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Police defused three small bombs in French Basque country after firefighters received a telephone warning about five explosive devices planted in a popular tourist area. Police found two of the bombs in a resort and outside the tourism office in Arcangues and the third on a TGV railway line near Ondres. The caller named three other sites, a seafront casino in Biarritz, a hotel and restaurant in Biadarray, and a resort in Anglet but police found no bombs at these places. The incident shut down train traffic in the region, including a two-hour closure of the railway station in Bordeaux, and caused the temporary evacuation of some 1,200 tourists in the middle of the night.
