By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | September 25th, 2008 | Trackback

A group of 11 European tourists and their eight Egyptian guides were kidnapped on Sept. 19 while they were on a Saharan safari to Gilf al-Kebir, a remote area near the Sudan-Libya border known for prehistoric cave paintings. The kidnappers were asking for $15 million in ransom and their location has since been found near the mountain Jebel Uweinat. Efforts are ongoing to negotiate their release.
