Greece: Transport Workers to Strike

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | October 16th, 2008 | Trackback

Transport workers will strike Oct. 21 to protest plans to privatize Olympic Airlines. Earlier strikes over the same issue forced cancellations of dozens of flights and brought bus, train and ferry traffic to a standstill. Significant disruption is likely. In unrelated walkouts, service on the Athens metro will be disrupted at the following times: Oct. 21, 5 a.m.-7 a.m. and 10 p.m. onward; Oct. 22, noon-4 p.m.; Oct. 24 and 25, midnight-2:15 a.m. Metro employees are protesting management’s failure to approve a collective work agreement.
