Lithuania: Credit Card and ATM Fraud Increasing

Credit card fraud is increasing in part because many ATMs here lack adequate security measures. Some 30 percent of all machines in Lithuania do not have modern security devices installed, but banks expect to resolve this issue by 2010. Meanwhile, criminals use scanning devices to skim card data at ATMs and during otherwise legitimate transactions. Such crimes, including actually stealing entire ATMs, are up 43 percent since 2006.
