Ireland: Aer Lingus Workers May Strike as Early as Nov. 24

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | November 13th, 2008 | Trackback

Aer Lingus workers vowed to strike as early as Nov. 24 and into the pre-holiday travel season over mass layoffs designed to save the airline millions of dollars. Management is determined to go forward with the cost-cutting plan and has set a deadline of Dec. 15 for workers to accept a severance package. If the two sides fail to reach a settlement the strike could cripple the airline during the peak travel season, affecting both domestic and international flights. The union has shown a willingness to talk but airline officials have remained firm. The government transport minister urged both sides to resume talks to avoid a strike.
