Nepal: Power Shortages Could Create Long Winter

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | November 20th, 2008 | Trackback

The coming winter could feel longer than usual for Nepal because daily power outages could stretch to as long as 14 hours compared to the five hours the country currently experiences. Compounding the problem, reservoir levels are lower than usual for this time of year, hampering hydropower as well. The decade-long Maoist insurgency also prevented development of other power sources.
