Netherlands: Report Shows Anti-Gay Violence in Amsterdam Not Diminishing
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |Amsterdam is not as tolerant as it thinks it is, according to a recent University of Amsterdam study that showed that anti-gay violence is ingrained in the community and is not decreasing. The study said 67 attacks on gay men occurred in 2007, a number a police commissioner called about average for recent years. Authorities believe most incidents go unreported. Most attacks were carried out by poorly-educated youths who felt their masculinity was being questioned, and were spontaneous, not planned.
