Venezuela: Bandits Kill U.S. Yachtsman Anchored in Mochimo National Park

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | November 13th, 2008 | Trackback

A U.S. yachtsman was shot and killed on his sailboat Nov. 8 by robbers who boarded his boat anchored in Mochimo National Park, a marine sanctuary off Venezuela’s northeast coast. The sailor wounded one of the attackers before being killed, and one of his friends was also wounded in the attack. Police said at least three suspects came in motorboats, one of which was found and seized. Tourists and fishermen have complained that the area has become unsafe because of infrequent coastal patrols.
