India: Mumbai Terror Attack Creates Tensions between India and Pakistan

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | December 3rd, 2008 | Trackback

Tensions are high between the governments of India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai that killed at least 171 people and targeted two luxury hotels, a railway station, a popular café and a Jewish center. The attackers came from Pakistan and had been trained in an Islamic militant camp there. India demanded that Pakistan take action against the group, providing a list of 20 names of suspected terrorists it wanted to see apprehended. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice flew to India to help reduce tensions amid concern that the incident could escalate into hostilities between the nuclear neighbors, a result perhaps intended by the terrorists.
