Mexico: Los Cabos Taxi-Bus Feud May Be Ending

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | December 24th, 2008 | Trackback

The end may be in sight for the long-running taxi-tour bus dispute in Los Cabos that sometimes catches tourists unaware and disrupts their transport between the airport and their hotels. Federal, state and municipal authorities signed an agreement to resolve the conflict between taxi drivers and tour bus operators and regulate transport from the airport to the resorts. The dispute has been occurring for two decades because the federal government regulates the tour buses but the state and municipal governments control the taxis, and these entities have been at odds over the issue. Taxi drivers feel they have the exclusive right to carry passengers in Los Cabos, while tour bus operators offer airport transfers as part of package tours. Time will tell whether this new agreement solves the issue.
