Ukraine: Nationalist March Could Cause Conflict
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The Ukrainian nationalist organization Svoboda will hold a demonstration and march Jan. 1 in Kiev to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Stepan Bandera, found of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. Svoboda allegedly has ties to other ultra-nationalist, or skinhead, groups and individuals, and confrontations or violence during the demonstration are possible. The march will begin at 6:00 p.m. near the Taras Shevchenko monument and proceed to the Maidan where a rally will be held at 7:00 p.m.
