Spain: Nightclub Bouncer Turf War Hits Madrid

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | January 29th, 2009 | Trackback

A turf war over nightclubs’ bouncer business has spilled violence into Madrid’s historic center, where a recent shooting at Heaven nightclub killed two and injured three. That same night at a club a half mile away a man was shot in the head but the incident did not appear to be related. Rival gangs of Spaniards and Eastern Europeans have been muscling to control Madrid’s lucrative bouncer business with violence increasing the past several months. Police fear that organized crime has now gained control of the city’s nightlife and are making a priority of bringing it under control.
