Bulgaria: Sofia Nightclubs Targeted in Bombings

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | February 26th, 2009 | Trackback

Two luxury nightclubs in the heart of Sofia were the targets of bombings within a week, with the second bomb failing to detonate and being defused by police. The manager of the Planet nightclub on Oborishte Street discovered the unexploded bomb outside the club on the morning of Feb. 24 and alerted police. On Feb. 18 a blast occurred outside Café Nero on Vitosha Boulevard, injuring no one but destroying the bar and damaging the surrounding buildings. Police have not determined a motive for the bombings, but it is possible they are related to organized crime.
