Brazil: Armed Robbers Take Over Hostel, Rob Tourists

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 18th, 2009 | Trackback

A band of seven armed men took over a hostel on Ferradura Beach in Buzios March 16, holding 30 Argentine tourists hostage for three hours and relieving them of cash and valuables. The attack was similar to two incidents that took place in Rio de Janeiro just before Carnival. Police in Buzios believe the gang knew the resort well and could have had help from an employee or guest. Buzios is a popular resort area 105 miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro made famous by Bridget Bardot in the 1960s.
