Denmark: Copenhagen’s Norrebo District Too Dangerous for Safety Group

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 4th, 2009 | Trackback

Turf wars between immigrant gangs and Hells Angels have made the Norrebro district of Copenhagen too dangerous for a volunteer public safety group and prompted the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office to warn visitors to be extra cautious in the neighborhood. The Night Owls, a 7,000-strong force of volunteers in yellow jackets who offer help to youths and act as a deterrent to crime, pulled out of the area after a shooting March 1 by a suspected immigrant gang member that killed one man and injured two others. None of the victims had connections to the Hells Angels. Greater Copenhagen has seen more than 60 street shootings since last summer, many of them occurring in Norrebro.
