Thailand: Thefts Up at Airports in Bangkok, Phuket

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | March 12th, 2009 | Trackback

Thai police are trying to stop a spate of luggage thefts at airports around the country, primarily at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport and at Phuket’s airport. Three suspects were apprehended in a recent incident when police were able to trace a stolen cell phone to the thieves despite the SIM card having been replaced. The three worked for a private baggage handling company and broke into bags in the aircraft’s hold. Similar complaints have been filed in Phuket. Luggage theft and pickpocketing is also a problem in the departure lounges. The lessons here are to place no valuables in checked bags and to keep a close eye on all luggage while checking in and passing through security.
