Australia: ATM Skimming Gang Hits Sydney, Melbourne

Authorities are concerned that an international criminal gang of ATM card skimmers is targeting Australia after the arrest of two Romanian men in Sydney. The two were arrested after a repair technician discovered their skimming equipment hidden inside the air conditioner in one of their hotel rooms. This incident followed the arrest in March of five Romanians for stealing money from 5,000 bank accounts in Melbourne with skimming equipment. Whenever possible, check to see if the ATM has been tampered with before inserting your card, and cover the keyboard to prevent hidden cameras from capturing your pin.
