Thailand: Political Problems Not Wholly Resolved
By Larry Habegger | Permalink |The collapse of “red shirt” political protests and arrests of most of the group’s leaders April 14 brought a semblance of normalcy to Bangkok, but uncertainties remain. One of the red shirt leaders fled the country and vowed to continue the struggle to bring down the government but no longer through conventional protests. The state of emergency remained in effect in Bangkok, and the founder of the “yellow shirt” People’s Alliance for Democracy, who oppose the red shirts, was shot in an assassination attempt. Authorities did not have immediate suspects.
