Egypt: 7 Suspects Arrested for February Cairo Bombing

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | May 27th, 2009 | Trackback

Authorities detained seven suspects in the February bombing outside al-Hussein Mosque next to Khan el-Khalili market that killed a teenage French tourist. Investigators reported that the seven had explosives and ammunition in their possession when arrested, but they were not the perpetrators of the bombing, they simply were involved in planning the attack. Among the seven was a French woman, a British man, a Belgian man, two Egyptians and two Palestinians, all believed to be connected to al Qaeda. Khan el-Khalili market is one of Cairo’s prime tourist attractions where visitors shop for souvenirs or more valuable crafts and enjoy relaxing at outdoor cafes.
