Ukraine: Police Hunt Serial Killer, Crime Up

The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv reported that police are hunting for a serial killer they believe to be responsible for at least five murders of women ranging in age from 19 to 70 in Kyiv province. The suspect is male, approximately 35 years old, and is believed to dress in a police uniform or priest’s cassock to lure his victims. Police advise women not to venture out alone late at night. The Embassy’s message also reminded travelers that crime is a serious problem in Kyiv and throughout Ukraine, especially as the economic situation worsens.
