Thailand: Police Stop Gang of “Leg-Shakers”

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | June 10th, 2009 | Trackback

Bangkok police said they broke up a gang of thieves whose modus operandi was to pretend to drop papers near a tourist, then grab the victim by the leg and shake while others swarmed and stole the victim’s valuables in the chaos, then flee in taxis. The gang was especially active in the Silom and Bang Rak areas. The gang had operated for about a year in various tourist districts before being apprehended May 26 when two strangers came to a victim’s aid and fought with the crooks. Police arrested five Filipinos in what was believed to be a gang of as many as ten.
