Argentina: Swine Flu (H1N1 Influenza) Creates Health Emergency in 12 of 23 Districts

Authorities announced several measures to control H1N1 influenza (formerly called swine flu), allocating $263 million to fight the spread of the disease. Officials extended school vacations throughout the country, declared administrative health emergencies in 12 of the country’s 23 districts, including the province and city of Buenos Aires, discouraged the public from attending events that involve large numbers of people, and are updating measures on a daily basis. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged Americans in high risk categories—generally speaking, those who are at a high risk for contracting seasonal flu—to consult their doctors before traveling to Argentina.
