Denmark: Copenhagen’s Nørrebo District to Get More Police

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | July 30th, 2009 | Trackback

Copenhagen’s Nørrebro district will have its police force more than tripled to 20 officers Sept. 1. The neighborhood is home to many minority groups and has been plagued by violent crime the past year. In March, turf wars between immigrant gangs and Hells Angels prompted a volunteer public safety group to pull out of the area. In addition to the increase in police, officers will be assigned specific streets to patrol and each pair will have a dedicated phone number for residents to call in emergencies.
