Peru: Armed Bandits Raid Second Amazon Cruise Boat in Two Weeks

Armed bandits overwhelmed guards and boarded a luxury tour boat on a cruise up the Ucayali River in the Amazon Aug. 4, bound the 20 guests and robbed them of their cash and valuables. The well-planned attack was the second of its kind in two weeks, but police found the gang’s jungle base and retrieved some of the valuables. Security in the area has been increased and police believe they will apprehend the criminals soon. The boat was headed for the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, a pristine region of lakes and exotic wildlife near Iquitos.
