Spain: Security Tight in Mallorca

By Larry Habegger | Permalink | No Comments | August 5th, 2009 | Trackback

When a bomb killed two police officers in Mallorca July 30 it was the second bombing blamed on the Basque terrorist group ETA in 34 hours. Security is very high in Mallorca and elsewhere, and in the days following the blast travel in and out of airports was significantly disrupted. The attacks were part of an ETA campaign to damage Spain’s tourism industry. Despite the attack, Spain’s King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia went ahead with their traditional summer vacation on Mallorca as planned.
